Prosper Archery Booster Club

What is Prosper Archery Booster Club (PABC)?

Our club is a member of NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program). Todd and Becky Hedges started our program in 2016 when they moved to the area. The program is not associated with Prosper ISD and relies solely on parent volunteers to operate. Our parent volunteer Coaches have all obtained their Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) certification from NASP. In addition, they attend SafeSport training, Mandatory Reporter training, and FBI fingerprinting background check. We have a minimum requirement of two coaches per team.

Who can join a Prosper Archery team?

We currently have an archery team for each high school in Prosper ISD as well as for Reynolds MS, Rogers MS, and Rushing MS. Only current Prosper ISD students in grades 6-12 are eligible to join the team representing the school in which they are enrolled. There will not be a team for Hays MS or Jones MS for the foreseeable future. Prosper HS and Rock Hill HS are not recruiting for the 2024-2025 season.

Team sizes are limited by space at our practice site, time constraints, NASP team requirements (ratio of male:female), and the coaching staff (teams with fewer coaches or inexperienced coaches will have smaller teams).

Students do not need to have prior archery experience to be selected to join a team! We are looking for students who are respectful and coachable.

What does the season look like?

Our season runs mid-September through the end of April. Practices are typically twice a week and are held in the evenings during the week at the Prosper ISD admin building. All practices are mandatory for each archer.

Attendance at all of our [roughly 12] tournaments is mandatory. Most tournaments are held on Saturdays. Locations include Grand Prairie, Arlington, Kennedale, Argyle, Highland Park, Brock, Belton (the State Tournament, a weekday tournament), and Utah (the National Tournament, requires weekday travel).Transportation to and from all tournaments is the responsibility of the archer/family.

If I make the team, what is required of me during the season?

The level of commitment to the team is very high. ALL practices and tournaments are required for all team members.

In addition, all grades must be above 70 for the entire season. We follow UIL guidelines.

The dues have been about $300 for the season in the past (cost has not been set for the coming year and is subject to change). Personal equipment costs will run you an additional $250 (one-time purchases); this includes the bow, arrows, and case. You can select where you wish to purchase the equipment as long as it is the approved NASP equipment (which we go over at the beginning of the season). Recurring personal equipment costs include new tournament arrows (about $40) every 2-3 years and new bow string & cable (about $55) every 2-4 years.
